Photo of the Day   July 27, 2008

Every day we post a new photo from the collections currently on Jim Miller’s desk. These are put on the site at approximately 4 am EST and you are likely looking at a photo that has rarely been seen outside of family and friends. Jim’s comments may reflect the photo owner’s knowledge or may result from the extensive research that Jim conducts. Each photo then goes into our on-site Photo Gallery, where you can review the most recent twenty.

Big Neal Thompson brought his radical looking Stude from Costa Mesa, Ca for Speedweek in 1966 to run in two classes, A and B Comp Coupe. For A the monster ran a blown 450" Chevy and was chaseing the 232.784 mph record set in '62. He qualified at 248.61 for a first in class and then stood the place on its ear when he grabbed the record at a mind blowing 265.131 mph. In class B teamed up with Les Leggitt running a blown 303" Chevy. He qualified at 247.08 mph for first in class on a 213.839 mph record. He then went out and took the record at 233.047 mph. Wow! At the present time Neal is running a bike at El Mirage. Steve Straw Collection.
